Top five non-toxic indoor plants for children
Not all plants are created equal. Some purify the air better, others have more decorative value, while a few can be toxic to those extremely curious and exploratory family members. The health benefits of herbs far outweigh the risks, but as a parent, you need to choose them wisely.
We know how much children love to nibble on things to better understand the world. Parents are advised to be cautious with houseplants and avoid ingesting any type of decorative plant. The five plants we are about to present are considered safe to touch and can be placed around children without being a danger to them.
Spider Plant (Chlorophytum)
The spider plant is not only very friendly with the little ones, but it is also one of the most versatile that you can have in the house. It has all the benefits you can think of – extremely easy to care for (almost impossible to destroy), does well in low light areas and is an excellent air purifier.
Boston Fern
Boston ferns are voluminous and beautiful. They thrive in indirect sunlight and are friendly to all family members. You feel like you’re breathing the air of a forest when you have one in your home.
Calathea
Radiant, with showy and decorative leaves, Calathea moves non-stop and is a gorgeous plant for a child’s room. Its look of tropical beauty that we fall in love with so easily needs special conditions to maintain.
Peperomia
Peperomia has a simple care policy, which is why it is so loved. Not needing much space for development, it can be placed in areas with limited space.
Dracaena
The University of Connecticut and the University of Nebraska list the genus Dracaena as non-toxic to humans, making it safe to grow around children. It likes the sun, so position it closer to the window.
Next level: Glass gardens
With terrariums you can take it in any direction: add a touch of modernism to the home decor, choose your favourite plant cultures and match them to your liking. Moreover, children love to participate in workshops to create mini glass gardens.
